Below is important logistical information for your dancer for next weekend’s Dress Rehearsal (Friday) and TFAD Recital (Saturday). PLEASE READ the entire email, and see Miss Paula at the front desk if you have any remaining questions.

The TFAD Recital is completely SOLD OUT. No tickets will be sold at the door. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. No one will be allowed into the Auditorium without a physical ticket.

– Dancers should arrive at the Lebanon High School auditorium at 5 p.m. on Friday, June 2 for Dress Rehearsal. Please do not be late so that we can begin promptly, and get everyone home sooner.

– Look for our TFAD Helpers upon arrival! They will be wearing red TFAD t-shirts, and will be located in the hallway just east of the auditorium doors. They will escort your dancer backstage.

– Dancers are to arrive in costume, with hair and makeup complete. Students in multiple classes should arrive wearing their first listed costume (a TFAD Recital line-up is available here). No nail polish, please. Dancers may wear Recital/competition earrings only. Please make sure your dancer has all costumes, dance shoes, extra tights and accessories. Dancers will not be permitted on stage if they are missing part of their costume.

– Parents of dancers in multiple classes will need to stay at Lebanon High School for costume changes. This only applies to dancers who will need help changing costumes – older dancers may not need a parent to help them. Please designate ONE parent for costume changes, as space is limited backstage.  A separate email will be sent soon with more information regarding costume changes.

– During Dress Rehearsal, the auditorium will be open ONLY to those parents who’s children have costume changes. The parent must check in at the auditorium door with a TFAD Helper to gain entry. Only one parent per dancer, please. Parents must remain in the back section of the auditorium, since our photographers will be using the front.

– We kindly ask that parents do not post videos or photos of Dress Rehearsal on social media. 

– Tiny Tots will be released to their parents immediately after their dance at Dress Rehearsal. We expect this to be around 6 p.m., approximately.

– Tap 3-4, Hip Hop 3-4, Tap 5-6, Hip Hop 5-6, Boys Hip Hop 5-6, and Jazz 5-6 will be released after Act I rehearsal. Ballet 3-4 and Ballet 5-6 will be released after Act II rehearsal. Unfortunately, we are unable to predict this timing. We understand that many of our younger dancers have early bedtimes, therefore we will do our best to get them through Dress Rehearsal quickly.

– Dancers should arrive at the Lebanon High School auditorium on Saturday, June 3 for Recital at the following call times:

5 p.m. – Students ages 11 & up
5:15 p.m. – Students ages 7-10
5:30 p.m. – Students ages 2-6

– Again, look for our TFAD Helpers upon arrival! They will be wearing red TFAD t-shirts, and will be located in the hallway just east of the auditorium doors. They will escort your dancer backstage.

– Ballet 3-4 and Ballet 5-6 will be released after Act II, during intermission. Please send ONE parent to sign your dancer out backstage from their designated room.

– Dancers should bring a bottle of water or sippy cup. Water only, please!Per LHS rules, no food, candy or drinks other than water are allowed backstage.

– If you plan to send a quiet activity with your dancer, please label it! Small toys, cards or puzzles are great ways for our dancers to pass the time backstage. iPads, iPods, tablets, etc. are allowed backstage as well to keep your dancer entertained. LHS and TFAD are not responsible for lost or stolen items.

– Make sure your child eats a healthy meal before Dress Rehearsal & Recital. Everyone wants to see happy, energetic dancers on stage!

– Please review our Recital Etiquette expectations. Feel free to share these with your family and friends!

– No videotaping or flash photography is permitted at the TFAD Recital. We want our audience to enjoy your child’s performance!

– A Bram Photographyrepresentative will be in the lobby at Dress Rehearsal and Recital for parents to pre-order discounted photo packages (you may also pre-order online, here). Parents will have the ability to purchase individual photos or pre-built packages – including prints, digital downloads, or a mixture of both! All photos from both Dress Rehearsal and Recital will be available via the online gallery (link to be emailed after Recital).

– To purchase a professional DVD of the full TFAD Recital, please click here to print an order form. DVDs are $20 each. Order forms and payment will be accepted in the lobby at Recital (cash or check, only).

The Talent Factory Company competition dance team will be selling a variety of “extras” at the TFAD Recital.  All proceeds will go toward sending the TFAD Company to Nationals this summer. All items are cash only.

– Flowers will be available for purchase to congratulate your student for $1.

– A 50/50 drawing will take place during the performance! Tickets will be available at the door. Tickets are $1 each – buy 11 for $10, or 23 for $20!

-TFAD Company will hold a silent auction for a Gift Card Basket. Bids will be taken in the auditorium lobby. The winner must pay in full the night of Recital.

Dancers use their craft to tell a story for the audience, projecting emotions, words and ideas with their movements. The ability to wordlessly translate their feelings for the crowd is a refined skill. Dancers need to use their whole bodies and the expressions on their faces to help convey the emotion of the moment. But with the bright, shining lights flooding the stage, it’s easy for dancers’ expressions to be washed out. That means the subtle nuances that are essential for setting the tone for their story to be over-looked. For younger dancers, having well-applied stage makeup for kids makes all the difference.

There’s no need to worry about intricate contours and layer upon layer of products for young dancers. The important step is to highlight their facial features so that they can be seen.

We have created step-by-step hair and makeup tutorials for our TFAD dancers. These looks are to be worn at Studio Picture Day, dress rehearsal and recital. Be sure to practice, so the morning of Studio Picture Day goes smoothly!

Can you believe it’s that time of a year again? It seems like just yesterday students were worried about their first day of dance class, and now the seasonal recital is quickly approaching. Recitals are often the highlight of the dance year, so make a dance recital checklist and help students be adequately prepared for the big day. Here’s how dancers can get ready for their dance recitals.

Get Ready Two Weeks Before the Show

Luck favors the prepared, so dancers should start getting ready for their big show with plenty of time before the performance date. This will ensure that you take the time to carefully pack all your supplies and can review your checklist a few times.

When you’re packing for a dance recital, you’ll want to bring many of the same things that you’d bring to a dance competition. Be sure you have proper undergarments, extra tights, all your different shoes and makeup supplies.

Do you have a schedule for the day planned out? While a recital might “start” at 6PM, dancers will be required to arrive early to check in, get prepared, potentially take pictures: there’s a lot going on! As a dance family, make sure you’ve looked through all of the emails and information your studio has sent you to be sure you know little details that can make a big difference, such as:

  • Parking for the recital (guest parking and dancer parking)
  • How to purchase tickets for the performance
  • Where to check in
  • Where to pick up any studio merchandise or flowers for dancers

Be Prepared for Unexpected Issues

Any experienced dancer will tell you that there are a lot of little things that can go wrong on recital day. Whether it’s something small like a bra strap breaking or makeup getting smudged, preparation is key to dealing with these issues.

Part of that is getting in the right mindset: attitude can truly make or break your recital experience. Some dancers are predisposed to stage fright, and that’s OK! Just be prepared with a few calming exercises that will help calm your mind and banish those jitters. Try taking a few slow, deep breaths or getting into a relaxing yoga pose.

When you’re waiting backstage, resist the urge to practice your steps. Chances are that you’ve got them down, so focus on getting excited for the performance. After all, it’s your time to shine! Take pictures with your friends, listen to pump-up music or simply visualize your success. Positivity will help you bring your natural radiance to the stage and dance your heart out!

Own Your Show

The recital is an opportunity for dancers to leave everything they have on the stage, and to truly enjoy doing what they love. Your entire dance community will be there, and they’re there to support you! So make the days before your recital count.

Show up to class and give it 100%. Ask questions and make sure you have everything you need to do the best job that you can. And finally, love the dancers who are next to you on stage, and be as supportive for them as you hope they can be for you!

Holiday Showcase

Below is important logistical information for your dancer for this weekend’s TFAD Holiday Showcase. PLEASE READ the entire post, and see Miss Paula at the front desk if you have any remaining questions.

The Holiday Showcase is completely SOLD OUT. No tickets will be sold at the door. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.

All Sundays of November - 11am and 4pm

5 p.m. – Students ages 11 & up
5:15 p.m. – Students ages 7-10
5:30 p.m. – Students ages 2-6

– Look for our TFAD Helpers upon arrival! They will be wearing red TFAD t-shirts, and will be located in the hallway just east of the Auditorium doors. They will escort your dancer backstage. Students need to arrive at Lebanon High School dressed and ready to go.

– Ballet students ages 3-6 who are in multiple classes should wear their ballet shoes FIRST. These students will also need to bring their red TFAD t-shirt to put on over their black ballet dresses/skirts for their other class performances. Please send all of their items in a bag labeled with their name, and also label their t-shirt and individual dance shoes. TFAD Helpers will help the younger students change their shoes and put on their t-shirt.

– Students ages 4 & under will be released to their parents following Act 1.ONE parent may come to the hallway to sign their student out at intermission. Our younger dancers may sit with their parents in the auditorium during Act 2. We understand that many of our younger dancers have early bedtimes, therefore they are not required to stay for the the full performance. We will call back all dancers at the end who wish to be in the finale.

– Dancers should bring a bottle of water or sippy cup. Water only, please!Per LHS rules, no food, candy or drinks other than water are allowed backstage.

– Please read our Recital Etiquette Guide, and feel free to share with family & friends who will be attending the Holiday Showcase.

BALLET & TINY TOTS – Solid BLACK leotard and ballet skirt or solid BLACK ballet dress, solid color tights (no pattern), ballet shoes.

TAP, JAZZ, HIP HOP, MUSICAL THEATER – Solid black leggings, athletic shorts, sweatpants, or yoga pants are acceptable for jazz, tap, hip hop, & musical theater classes. These will be worn with their red TFAD t-shirts. Class appropriate shoes.

HAIR – Girls need to have their hair pulled back off of their face. Ponytails, Pigtails, Braids, & Ballerina Buns are all acceptable. Dancers may wear festive holiday bows, but we discourage headbands as they tend to fall off when they are dancing.

SHOES – Please do not allow your dancer to wear their dance shoes outdoors. Change them into their dance shoes when you arrive, before handing them over to our helpers.

MAKE-UP – Make-up is recommended, as the stage lights will wash out your dancer.

All red TFAD t-shirts are in! If you ordered a shirt for the Holiday Showcase, please see the front desk to pick up your order. Tights and black ballet leotards are also available for purchase at the studio.

– No videotaping or flash photography is permitted at the Holiday Showcase. We want our audience to enjoy your child’s recital!

– A professional videographer and photographer will be capturing these moments. DVD order forms are available HERE, and will also be available at the performance. Photo flash drives order forms are available HERE, or at the Holiday Showcase.

At our studio, we want everyone to enjoy the recital performances! To enhance everyone’s enjoyment of the show, we believe in emphasizing the rules of common recital etiquette.

The Magic of a Live Performance: When you attend live performances, please keep in mind that the performers can hear and see you. Your actions and reactions, positive, negative, or disruptive, can impact the performers’ success. All of the dancers have invested time and hard work into their performances, so please show them the respect and courtesy they deserve.

Entering/Exiting: Please plan your travel so that all of your guests are seated 10 minutes prior to the performance starting. Late arrivals are incredibly disruptive and will not be admitted during a dance number. Once you arrive, please do not enter/exit the theatre unless it is a true emergency. No exits/entrances will be allowed while the dancers are on stage. There will be a 15 minute intermission that will permit an opportunity to stand-up, use the restroom, etc.

Silence & Store Your Technology: Please turn off cell phones, iPods, iPads, and any other electronic devices prior to the performance starting. They may cause interference with the recital sound system. You should never speak, text, check Facebook, or play games on your electronic devices during a performance. You should also not check your device during a performance since the backlight is incredibly bright and distracting to other audience members. This will also show up on our professional DVD, will be distracting, and ruin the quality of the recording and stage effects.

Children & Babies: At our studio, we invite all children and babies to attend our performances. If your child becomes upset or fussy during the performance, please promptly step out into the lobby as not to disrupt the dancers and other audience members. A quick change of scenery is often effective in calming upset children. Please keep in mind when deciding whether to bring a small child that the Spring Recital is longer than the Holiday Showcase and small children may get antsy. There will not be room in the audience seating for them to move freely.

Noises: Please refrain from talking during the performances. This is very distracting to our dancers and your neighbors. Your child may not be on stage, but your neighbors might be.

Photography/Videography: Please remember that photography and videography are not allowed during the recital performances. This is distracting to your neighbors, all of the people behind you, and our dancers. It will also be distracting in the professional DVDs of the performance that we are having recorded. Order forms for both photos and DVDs will be available prior to the recital.

Food/Drink: Food and drinks are not allowed in the auditorium. No exceptions!

Curtain Call: The performance is over at the conclusion of curtain call (when every dancer comes onstage to take their final bow). Audience members should stay for the entire performance and should not leave early during the curtain call. Please stay in your seat until the performance is over and the house lights are raised. Then, exit with the rest of the audience. This policy is in place to show respect to all of our performers.

And, most importantly, remember to enjoy the show! Our dancers have worked very hard, and they will greatly appreciate your applause and enthusiasm!
